How often should I get an eye exam?
We recommend yearly eye examinations to evaluate the health of your eyes and assess glasses or contact lens prescriptions.
When should my child receive an eye exam?
The American Optometric Association recommends children to have comprehensive eye examinations by the age of 3. These exams consist of objective tests that do not require a child's response. These tests are necessary to rule out lazy eye, eye turns, and congenital conditions.

What is astigmatism?
Astigmatism is a term used to describe the shape of the front part of the eye or the cornea. One area or meridian (from the top to the bottom of the cornea) is slightly steeper than the other meridian (from side to side) causing blurriness with far and near vision.

Can I wear contacts if I have astigmatism?
Yes. Toric or astigmatism lenses can be fitted based on your prescription. Some toric lenses come in color lenses too.

What age should people wear sunglasses?
People of all ages should wear sunglasses, including children. Sunglasses protect eyes from the sun's UV rays, which is associated with the development of cataracts, pingueculas, and other eye conditions. 80% of UV exposure occurs before the age of 18.

What is the importance of dilation?
A dilated exam gives you the most thorough evaluation for your eyes. Dilation drops temporarily make your pupils large to provide an accurate assessment of your retina and other eye structures. Many conditions like retinal detachments can only be detected with a dilated exam. If you are over age 40, we highly recommend yearly dilations to detect and manage diseases like cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic eye disease.
